Anacortes High School

Written by Sarah Jones

In June, my youngest graduated from AHS and is now a student at the University of Washington.  Her earlier schooling had been in a one room school on Decatur Island so we were apprehensive about what high school would be best for her given her unique, albeit cloistered, early years.  We interviewed a number of schools in the area before choosing AHS and neither of us regret the decision we made.  Anacortes High School offered her a wonderful education with phenomenal experiences in the Drama Department, French Studies and English programs.  She had the opportunity to travel to Scotland and France and had friends who also went to Spain and Japan.  The commitment of the teachers was evident throughout her four years and the academic records of the majority of the students is testament to the quality of education that’s provided.  For many young people, high school can be a defining time for determining future ambitions and goals.  We’re fortunate to have  a great school in our community that recognizes it’s valuable role in this developmental process.
